The word "gospel" is an Old English word that means "Good News". It refers to the message of who Jesus is and what He has done on behalf of sinners who put their faith in Him. The Apostle Paul summarizes the Gospel this way in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, "... that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures"
He did this to pay the penalty for sins so that those who beleive in Him can have peace with God. In Romans 1 the Apostle Paul talks about the power of the Gospel message that leads to the salvation of all who accept it by faith. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)
So, the Gospel is about what God has done through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
